ON THE RADAR | HOT SPOT

Georgian Bay Surf Club, Collingwood

Freshwater surf culture is surging in Ontario and now there’s a spot offering a taste of the local surfing scene from dry land. Launched by four aficionados of the sport, this bar, restaurant and surf shop made a splash when it opened in downtown Collingwood in February. The vibe is coastal and casual, with beachy cocktails and a menu inspired by iconic surf destinations — think Hawaiian Sweet Buns, Indonesian Satay Lilet and Vietnamese Bahn Mi.

Elora Gorge Conservation Area

Embark on a road trip to this idyllic conservation area on the Grand River, which promises a broad spectrum of pure summer fun. Cool off in a kayak or tube and float along the site’s popular natural two-kilometre lazy river. Venture beyond to explore the park’s other features — a multi-use campground/picnic area and riverside trails, as well as scenic stops on 22-metre-high (72-foot) cliffs overlooking the rapids.
