‘Home Away From Home’ Health Care

When students move away to school, your CAA Membership provides Maple benefits, putting health care just a virtual visit away.

By Lisa van de Geyn

Your child is away at college or university this fall. Like a lot of parents and guardians in the same situation, you’re getting used to a quiet household while doing your best to loosen those protective reins. You’ve crossed off everything on your child’s back-to-school list, but there are other concerns. Will your children have everything they need while away from the nest? While they’re living on their own, will they have access to health care?

That’s when your CAA Membership can help.

Maple virtual health care is a benefit included with all CAA Memberships. An on-demand virtual platform, Maple allows Members and eligible dependents to access health care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s a great way for students living away from home during the school year to get the health care they might need, especially if they can’t consult a health-care practitioner in person. If you want to ensure that your children are covered, simply add them to your Maple account.

New to Maple? It’s easy to use and is available 24/7 — nurse practitioners are always on call to offer advice, answer questions and provide a diagnosis — and you can access a range of other specialists, including psychologists. These health-care professionals can also send prescriptions, referrals and lab requisitions via secure phone, message or video. Getting medical assistance through Maple doesn’t replace a family doctor, but the service provided by Maple is a complement to your family’s health-care team. It’s a valuable resource when kids get an infection, need a refill on a prescription or could use some help in managing a chronic condition but can’t make it to a health-care provider’s office.

Tell your kids about this vital CAA Member benefit and take comfort in knowing that, through Maple, they can access health-care help on or off campus whenever they need it. CAA
