A Letter From the Editor
Hello, Member! It’s nice to meet you — I’m the new CAA Magazine editor at CAA Club Group, and I’ll be working alongside our fantastic team to keep bringing you stories that help, entertain and inspire you in your daily lives.
I joined the company as everyone was putting the finishing touches on the Community & Advocacy issue. With this theme, we were inspired to support you in feeling more connected to others in your local region. At CAA, we’re grateful to be a part of your communities, too. We care deeply about how you move within them — whether you’re lending help to a neighbour, engaging in civic issues or travelling to and from home safely.
This edition is packed with ideas on how you can participate in life as it’s happening near you. Joining a community club is one of the best ways to get out of your comfort zone and forge friendships while doing something you already love or trying something new. Consider a club for cycling or car enthusiasts, or give back by volunteering at one of the worthy places in our Top 10 Ways to Donate. You’re bound to meet people who share your interests.
Advocacy is the natural next step to getting more involved locally, because when we’re more in touch with what’s going on in our neighbourhoods, we become exposed to the issues that directly impact us and our loved ones. For example, the CAA School Safety Patrol® program helps kids feel immersed in their school communities while ensuring safer street crossings for their fellow students. We feature some of these sidewalk stewards here.
CAA has advocated for Canadians for more than 120 years. We’ve done everything from calling for seatbelt laws to demanding stricter rules around driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. And now we’re proud to share our latest campaign for the Slow Down, Move Over legislation, a stop-you-in-your-tracks public service announcement about the dangers of not slowing down for tow truck operators on the side of the road.
